    Chanting Puppy

Seventeen years ago, I read an article in the Sunday paper, which has been in back of mind since then and inspired me to take this journey. It was the story of a man and his daughter, boating down the Mekong River, beginning in the Golden Triangle, ending in Luang Prabang.

It took me 17 years to recreate this trip and what better occasion than my 70th birthday. Invitations went out and a group of 12 intrepid adventure seekers joined in. Included were my immediate family, wife, son, daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren, as well as other friends.

Our destination of Luang Prabang turned out to be a magical place, earning every bit the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each evening, Buddhist monks are chanting their prayers. On this particular evening, we arrived at Wat Xieng Thong and the prayers were in progress. As a testament to the serenity of the moment, a puppy was blissfully positioned at the thresh hold of the temple door.

Surrounded by friends and family, my journey was now complete.
