Earth Hour Iraq
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
Over 100 residents in Sulaimani, Iraq participated in Earth Hour tonight from 8:30-9:30pm. A number of large buildings in the city turned off their external lights for the hour in solidarity with the Earth Hour movement, which is aimed at reducing the world's CO2 production. After 6 local buildings turned off their lights, a crowd of roughly 100 citizens gathered in Azadi Park and watched a presentation about the importance of reducing our carbon usage.
The project was funded by Mercy Corps' Global Citizen Corps, which consists of dozens of young Iraqi youth with an interest in participating in constructive activities to benefit their society. Amanj Saeed was one of the main event organizers.
