Life with autism: Share your story

This is Troy Waters at home on 4/2/12

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Troy2002, of Tucson, Arizona, says her 10-year-old, Troy, wanted to share his story on iReport. Troy told us himself that he loves sports, his favorite subject in school is PE and his second favorite is tied between music and computers. While he likes being unique and being the 'one person who thinks' a particular way, he does face challenges. 'It's like sometimes you don't understand what people are saying. It's hard to understand. When I'm playing football and my coach tells me to do something, sometimes I don't understand it.' Troy tells us he's working on learning how to understand. His mom says he has difficulty understanding facial expressions and emotions, but he's learning. She wants to tell the world 'not to give up on them, because they do learn and they can adjust.'
Troy gave us permission to use his video. 'If you guys like it, sure,' he says.
    - ssesha, CNN iReport producer

Troy is 10 years old. He is a highly functioning autistic child. He is highly gifted academically but struggles socially. He has just started exploring and finding about autism to find out why he has trouble fitting in with his classmates.
