JOURNEY TO A DREAM
PRAGUE - ROME 2011
As the famous saying has it: “all roads lead to Rome.” So, we asked ourselves, “why not take one of them and go to see Rome this year?“
The journey to Rome will be the third journey realized so far and it will be longer than any of the preceding journeys. The distance of some 1500 km in total will be covered in 19 days and his handbike will be Heřman’s only means of transport. He plans to hand cycle between 70 to 110 km (depending on the terrain) every day while taking every 5th day off for recovery.
The start of the journey is scheduled on June 17, 2011 and will take place at the Mariánské Square in Prague. The final destination is at the St. Peter’s Square in front of the Papal Palace in Vatican because the true climax of the journey will be an officially granted audience with the Pope Benedict XVI.
Heřman’s dream is powerful and courageous. The third journey was dubbed ”Journey of Hope” because Heřman does not do it for himself but for all handicapped people in the Czech Republic. He will carry with him a message not only about the challenges and difficulties the disabled face every day, but also about what they have learnt and what they want to pass on the others to help them to deal with the situation. Then, from Rome, from Vatican, Heřman would like to bring back a message from the Pope Benedict XVI - a message of hope for and belief in the best in people. A message which will show to the handicapped people that the bravery with which they face their problems is an inspiration and encouragement for all. This message would become a symbol of hope, strength and energy.
