Exposing terrible functioning of Indian Consulate in U.S.A
There are multiple locations for Indian consulate in USA. Upon having some issues with the Houston Consulate I did some research to report them to a higher authority. I could only find pages full of complaints and everyone is trying to figure out where to report the issues. I am an Indian citizen and I am living here on a student visa. Last time I saw my family in india was in 2006. Its almost 7 years since I have gone back and now when I am graduating and can finally take a break from school, I am not ALLOWED to leave US. I am an indian citizen and its very frustrating to see that the consulate won't even pick up the phones and if they do they just give you a run around or quickly hang up on you. People in India may not raise their voice on issues like this but I think this is a very important matter and something really needs to be done. Indian provide excellent customer service to all the american companies who have outsourced to India but its a shame that the Indian consulate in USA will behave like this.
I would really appreciate it if CNN could investigate and report the issues as they exist and may be Some higher authority from India or USA can step in and improve the system.
I was told my passport renewal could take anywhere from 6 months to a year or more. No definite time and to them it doesn't matter.
I can post some complaints forums here but due to the word limitation I will suggest to just google INDIAN CONSULATE COMPLAINTS and I am sure you can find unlimited complaints against all office but mostly for the Houston Office.
I even offered to appear in person since I live in florida but I was told there is no assurance that I will be issued a passport if I make the 13 hour drive or spend $500 in travelling.
I have filed complaints online but nothing seems to be improving. They make it feel like they are doing us a favor by processing the applications.
