This iReport is part of an assignment:
iReport Debate: What’s your top issue?
I am employed full-time as a financial worker for the elderly/disabled individuals. I authorize Medicaid, SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) for this population. You always hear on the news, campaign promises, etc. that the government needs to cut spending.
Ok, let's cut spending and start with the salaries of ALL Senators and Congressmen, no more tax-payer paid retirement accounts, no more tax-payer health insurance. Most or all members of the Senate and Congress are millionaries or billionaires. They DON"t need these benefits, they WANT them.
They also don't want to pay any taxes either.
I have been employed full-time for the past 25 years and I do not even make $50,000.00 a year. Thank you, Senator Hoeven, for the $1 billion dollar surplus in North Dakota and not spreading the wealth among state employees! I started my career as a "client" and started out as a "temporary worker" until I was finally hired full-time in March 1987, I raised 2 children on my own, no child support until they became adults. Their father recently died with over $20,000 remaining in unpaid child support.
There is another way to cut spending, quit giving refugees SSI benefits(they do not have 40 quarters of employment), then they are on subsidized housing, eligible for SNAP benefits and Medicaid with no out-of-pocket cost, BUT THEY TAKE EUROPEAN TRIPS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY and their total income is $698.00 or less.
Now I would like to take an annual trip, but I have to work full-time and I still cannot save enough money to visit family in North Carolina! I have personal knowledge of this. Refugees from Bosnia and people from Iraq, Kurdish are the ones who return to their homeland and usually stay 2-3 months. When they return to the US, they have to re-apply for SSI and the other programs, IF they have reported that they are out of the country. The majority do not report this, so their money keeps growing and their SNAP benefits accumulate on their EBT card.
So, I have decided NOT to vote in the presidential election or my local government, because there is NO ONEwho represents me. I am not a millionaire or a billionaire and it is only the people who fall into this category benefit from the elections and they do not have to pay a lot in taxes!
I filed my 2011 Income tax, and I pay about 10% of my income in taxes, Gov Romeny is worth $250+million and he stated that he only pays 14% in taxes.
There is something definately wrong with that program!
I am considered one of the "baby boomers", born in 1952, but I cannot draw Social Security benefits and Medicare until I am 66 and my greatest fear of all, is that when I retire, I will be walking out of my office with an application for SNAP and Medicaid.because the people who make all of the rules will make sure there are massive cuts to those programs.
Laws are only passed if the Senator or Congressman and their families and close personal friends will benefit and to hell with the rest of us!
