    Experiencing Singapore

Having moved to Singapore recently, I am inspired to see how religion and culture has intertwined in the daily lives of Singaporeans - taking cultural understanding and religious tolerance to greater heights. My experiences so far have been truly enriching.

From a Hindu temple in the middle of Chinatown to a mosque that invites you to break fast with them during the holy month of Ramadan; with a Buddhist temple that allows anyone to place a prayer offering and with Christmas decorations dotting the city streets in such a grand way, Singapore has allowed me to witness what unity is all about.

It’s fascinating to witness local Hindu’s having the Lion Dance performed in their homes during Chinese New Year with the purpose of bestowing good fortune to the family and local Chinese participating in the Hindu festival of Fire Walking. These unique moments have inspired me to be more open in experiencing how other people express devotion.

Singapore’s unique cultural and religious festivals all year round have been a great way for me to immerse in local customs and rituals. My stay on the island continues to be an interesting journey... a journey of cultural discovery.
