One year since Trayvon Martin's death |
It was never about race
I hate to disappoint alot of would be pundits and professional pundits, but the Martin case was never about race. Unfortunately, Trayvon was the victim of basic stupidity, police incompetence, and the arrogance of a wanna be police poseur.
Trayvon died through no fault of his own. Zimmerman followed and confronted him, violating all concepts of Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrines. He confronted someone he believed to be a suspect, something an officer of the law does not do unless provided with backup. Essentially, Zimmerman was playing like a hero for no reason other than his own ego and possibly to elevate his status among neighbours and other peers.
The sacrificial lamb was Trayvon, and the media is not done sacrificing him nor will they be any time soon. With second degree murder charge, unless the prosecution makes a motion to preclude other charges, the jury can consider lesser charges for a guilty verdict, including Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault, Asst with a Deadly Weapon, and a variety of others. George isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but achieving a fair trial is more complex due to the actions of previous participants, especially the DA of Sanford and the Sanford PD.
