In need of a Money Coach?

    Tax Resolution Scam

I'd like to ask advise from Clark Howard. I believe my question should be reviewed by Clark and shared on air because #1 It is related partially to CNN because it advertised more times on headline news than any other channel & 2: I know that many others out there have been affected and unsure on the next steps.

Clark, talk about being stupid & bad luck. I'm behind on my taxes, plus missing a few filings due to financial and a recent health problem. I'm a regular viewer of CNN and finally decided to pick up the phone and call Tax Masters to "fix my problem". I don't feel I'm usually a sucker, but the sales guy at one point quoted "Wesley Snipes went to jail becuase of your problem". Long story short, I ended up paying them up front to prepare and fix my last 4 years of taxes (Fed and State). They also sold me a service to "Monitor My Account" with the IRS to avoid a suprise levy/garnishment. Exactly 2 weeks after payment & while they were were working on my taxes, I received a letter with my paycheck from the IRS to Levy part of the amount due. Obviously they don't monitor as part of the service. I had decent communication with the guy preparing the taxes and they were 98% ready to go. Well, a week and a half ago all commuincations with the company stopped (no returned calls or emails). While browing the business news I see they filed bankruptcy along with a 195 million dollar judgement against them for deceptive practices. So, for over $1000 payment, the only thing I got was a 2011 Tax extention filed with the IRS. What do I do now? Do I get part of the judgement? Who do I contact?
