Is Ann Romney really working?
I’d like to comments on the comments made by your team on stay at home moms. Believe me, I honor stay at home moms and I honor the family core as I believe it is absolutely critical for the balance of this country. However, there are some details that you seem to forget. “If you're a stay-at-home mom, the Democrats have a message for you: you've never worked a day in your life.” That is not what the democrats meant. In our world today, being a stay at home mom is a luxury. I have been a single mom for 16 years and have been in this country for 12. I had NO CHOICE but work to provide for my family and I had absolutely NO ASSISTANCE from the government to do so.
This is exactly what Hilary Rosen meant when she talked about Ann Romney not having worked a day or her life. What Ann never had to do is make money (work) to provide for her family as you did. What Ann never had to do is spent sleepless nights worrying about how she was going to feed her children next month. What Ann never had to do is wonder how she would get out of the foreclosure procedure on her home because it was upside down and she hardly made enough money to pay for the very essentials of life.
What Ann never had to do is make sure she or her children would not get sick as she knew she would not be able to afford the doctor’s or dentist visit. Ann worked for sure taking care of her children, making sure her house was clean and orderly, cooking for her family or directing people to cook for her family. Is it work? Absolutely but not the kind of work that Hilary Rosen meant. This work that Ann does is also the work that working mothers have to do after they are done making money for their family.
So please Mitt, as much as I would like to vote for you as I believed you understood what’s happening in America, I have realized day after day because of this type of comments that you are making, that you have absolutely no clue about what moms in this country are going through. No clue. Yes you are right, Ann Romney represents the best of what happens inside the American home every day but not all American homes. Ann represents the best of what happens in wealthy American homes and I honor Ann for representing this, but I also secretly envy Ann for being able to represent this. Her choice was to stay at home and raise her five sons and she made that choice because she had the luxury of making that choice. I have never had that luxury.
“That is no easy task for any mother-- especially a woman who battled through breast cancer and multiple sclerosis”. YES but how easy is it compared to women that have to work day in and day out, that come home to start another day and that when they battle cancer, they can’t afford the best doctors to increase their chance of survival. Mitt, if you truly understand this country, stop sending this type of messages. They are outside of the realm of the true reality that is taking place in the country you call yours.
