    American Bandstand, Dick Clark and ME!

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     maggiedo says she remembers the night when she and her friends were watching American Bandstand and the show played her song off the record "White Zone." 'The kids who reviewed it said it sounded like something from the 1950's... my friends were not happy to hear that,' she says. Even though her song did not get a high rating on the show she says Dick Clark jumped right in and said he liked the song, she says. 'If the kids didn't give me a low rating [Clark] wouldn't have spoken to me directly,' she says.

    When I released my first single off of my first album for Columbia records, it went straight to American Bandstand. Here it was played, danced to and...rated by the kids. When it only got a lukewarm response, Dick Clark looked right into the camera, said my name, and told me HE liked it and for me to keep plugging. A very generous kind man.
