Extorting a Presidency- The "Double Bind" of the GOP

"Elect Romney or things won't get better. We'll make sure of that."
Americans are faced with the GOP's "double bind". Double binds are often utilized as a form of control without open coercion—the use of confusion makes them difficult to respond to or resist.

Americans get it. They understand they're being held hostage by the Republican Party. Many middle class families continue to suffer under Republican policies - yes, residual policies.Policies, the GOP want Americans to believe, are Obama's.

Obama would have done things differently had he not had to deal with the extortionist party he's had to through his Presidency.

They filibustered him. They've held up the debt ceiling to extract more from the middle class as they protected the Kochs. The GOP refused to bring bills out of committee. They killed the Public Option in health care. Get the drift?

But now, Romney tells America that, "Obama's a nice guy, but nice guys don't win."

He implies that he can get the job done. He's assuming that he will have a Republican Congress to work with.

If America is smart, they'll do some House Cleaning come November and re-elect Obama.

Americans are weary. They want some help. But will conceding to the demands of the blackmailers resolve our long term issues? They guys are the ones that started the whole economic mess with their policies. Now they want to "double down."

It didn't work the first time (for the middle class) but now those same failed policies reconstituted will work ?

Those policies did work for the top 1%. Republicans work for the wealthy, not all wealthy but those that want more - the selfish, greedy ones.

Yes, Ryan's Budget will "Cut and Grow" our economy all right - cut the middle class and grow the wealthy more. Privatization is the key here. Just look at what they want to do with the Post Office and education.

Extortion in the business world is a crime. But during Presidential elections, we simply call it politics as usual for the GOP. How do Republicans extort a Presidency from the American people?

The refuse to cooperate with a Democratic President over his term. They force compromises that cut money to programs he advocates on behalf of so the desired results simply won't happen. The GOP refuses to send the states the money they need to keep teachers on the job and then point to the President and say, "High unemployment is Obama's fault".

Extortion is the crime of obtaining some other thing of value by the abuse of one's office or authority. In this case, we're talking about the Presidency of the United States of America. High crime? Sure.

But when you can cause gas prices to skyrocket with your rhetoric against Iran and then point to the President and say it's his fault, Americans miss the GOP's hypocrisy.

Republicans accuse Obama of being soft on Iran. Romney has his bombing strategy on hold until he becomes President. They say Obama sides with the terrorists in Iran and against Israel's Netayahu. Gas prices go up, but that's Obama's fault.

States had to cut public sector workers because the stimulus has run out and Republicans refuse to allow another because of what they say is our deficit.

They claim there's uncertainty in our economy and blame the President for that. Who is causing the uncertainty?

Every GOP Senate filibuster, every accusation of Obama's legitimate birth right, every policy he's passed they've fought him tooth and nail and lied about his intentions. Now they have the audacity to blame him for our economy not being better? They started this mess under Bush, have made it worse for longer by refusing to help and want to claim credit for what jobs have been created by Obama's policies. Hypocrites? Yes. Extortionists? Yes.

Add to this debacle, this total, ludicrous failure of GOP policy, a GOP rubber stamp U.S. Supreme Court and you have the makings of an American coup d'état   courtesy of the Republican Party.

Add to their strategy the "thumb on the scale" of the vote with measures passed in favor of voter ID laws in swing states because of supposed voter fraud. Right? But's it's all legal and if it isn't, the Supreme Court will "make it so." Think not? Consider what Citizens United did to our elections.

Maybe some voters are beginning to suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.

Mitt Romney wants Americans to blame Obama. In reality, it's his party that have prevented unemployment from going down, money from being available to build infrastructure and more Americans from being back at work.

The GOP is telling Americans that this won't change until a Republican is back in the White House.

Cheering high gas prices and high unemployment seems to this reporter to be against America's interests, simply to win the Presidency.

It's extortion, folks. Plain and not so simple. Americans need to recognize it for what it is and then fix this GOP "double bind" by voting every last Republican out from our government.
