    Memories of Dick Clark

Dick Clark was nice as he seemed

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     bignote was a drummer for a live show in Las Vegas in the 1970's which Dick Clark hosted. He says one of his fondest memories with Dick Clark was one night during their live show Jackie Wilson's drummer was not able to perform and he was asked to play for Jackie Wilson. 'I was so nervous about it I felt like I was going out of my mind,' he says. 'Usually after Jackie would finish up Dick would go on and deliver his final monologue. For some reason I queued the Bandstand theme song before Dick's monologue. And so here I am in the Bandstand shuffle and it is just me.' He says he was surprised he was not fired. 'Instead Dick said something about my youthful enthusiasm,' he says.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

I was a musician in Dick Clark's live Las Vegas shows of the 70s. We did 3 shows a night, afterwhich Dick flew to NY to tape 3 Pyramid shows and then return - every day. Through all that, he was always amiable, accessible and ffriendly. A genuinely fine person.
