    First day of summer in Iceland - national holiday

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ander, of Reykjavik, Iceland, shot these pictures showing the Snaefells glacier, which some refer to as the entrance to earth, and people celebrating the first day of summer. 'It is a public holiday, and we are celebrating the first day of summer...winter is officially over,' he says. 'According to old folk tales - if winter and summer are frozen together (the temperature below zero celcius, [during] the night between winter and summer), then that means that the summer will be good, warm and calm.' He says he enjoys this holiday and his day off.

    Today there is a national holiday in Iceland ----
    Now Iceland celebrates the first day of summer .
    Festivals all over the country ,and people enjoying the weather .
    And the weather is great here in Reykjavik,sun and getting warmer .
    I went to the big tower church in the center of Reykjavik and took a little video of the statue of Leif Eiricsson,the discoverer of the Americas in the year 1000. this statue is a gift from the USA goverment in 1930 - when Iceland was celebrating the 1000 year anniversary of the Icelandic Parliament - the oldest parliament in the world.
    I also went to the beach in Reykjavik - and not many where there having fun

    the video from the tower - there you can see the Glacier - Snaefellsglacier - and in the story by Jules Verne - Journey to the center of the earth --- the entrance was this glacier .
