    Earth Day Repurposing

Repurposing or reusing items for another function is a great Earth Day lesson. Using a Radio Flyer antique wagon, wicker baskets, tree stumps, watering cans, ladders, bicycles, or headboards to support plants, flowers, or vines is a great example.

The Garden Club of Mount Dora demonstrated this at the 2012 Earth Day celebration in Florida. They displayed plants on a old wagon, a wicker basked, and among other previous used items.

Gardeners can save the earth through reducing landfills, energy required to create new items, and save money by not buying new items.

The rain barrels, auctioned to support the parks, were reused and will collect rain for years to come reducing the need for pumping and paying for municipal water for gardening. Mayor Bob of Mount Dora painted the swarm of dragon flies on the blue rain barrel during the afternoon event.

The video shows the author's repurposes. You will see an brass étagère sans the glass shelves, a wood ladder, and a brass headboard used for trellises.
