    Tubbataha Turtles

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     jayveef, an underwater photography hobbyist, says the Philippines 'is the "center of the center" of marine biodiversity and sadly not a lot of Filipinos know this.' He hopes to 'share the wonders of my country to fellow Filipinos to make them realize the beauty beneath the surface.'
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Tubbataha Reef in Sulu Sea, Palawan is considered a haven for several endangered species on the planet. When I went on a one week live aboard SCUBA trip in 2010 I was able to get really close to several male hawksbill turtles, considered endangered globally. The one I photographed here was rather friendly letting me swim along for more than 5 minutes in the shallow.

Tubbataha Reef is composed of two coral atolls and is considered one of the best SCUBA diving spots in the world.
