    Sandhill Cranes nesting

This week, at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner, B.C., two Sandhill Cranes produced two eggs, they fiercely protect them at all time, touching, watching and rearranging, taking turns incubating them. The Male usually wades in the water surrounding the nest; built on a small island in a lagoon. He protects the nest as well as the female from predators.
We hope that this year will be a successful one for them. Last year they lost one baby that drowned as he was trying to get off the nest.
