Champagne with Prince Harry!!
On Valentine's Day 2010, I was in London to visit a friend. I was staying at the Intercontinental on Park Lane, just across from Green Park and near the palaces. I decided to buy a bottle of champagne as a gift for my friend, so I went into the M&S right beside the Green Park tube station. Their champers selection was on a low shelf in a chilled cabinet, so I had to bend down low to see my choices. As I was looking through the glass door, suddenly the door opened right in my face! I sort of toppled over, then looked up to see who had perpetrated this offense -- I was looking straight into the eyes of Prince Harry! He asked me if I was all right, offered his hand to help me up, and apologized for opening the door in my face. We both continued perusing the champagne selections. He chose a bottle, turned to me and said "cheers," then he handed the bottle to what was apparently a sort of Royal Minder, who went to queue at the till. While his man was queueing, Harry was leafing through magazines. I chose a bottle, and, I admit, chose my route to the till such that I had to go past where Harry was standing. He looked up from the magazine and gave me a smile and a nod. I queued for the till, paid for my bottle, and then left without seeing him again.
He was much taller than I expected him to be, and considerably more handsome than he appears in photographs. I found myself with rather wobbly knees and a fluttery tummy, despite myself!! :)
In the taxi to my friend's house, I was texting madly, telling my friends back home that I'd just seen Harry! Of course, it was the first thing I said to my friend when I reached her house. The first toast that night was to Harry, of course!
