First Country Outlaws Didn't Get High

In the late 60s I was with the million selling pop group Mercy on Warner Brothers. I became dissatisfied with the drug scene of that era and felt led to form an anti-drug country duo known as the Country Cavaleers. I left Mercy with another band member by the name of Buddy Good. Buddy and I kept the family image Mercy had and headed for Nashville by way of Texas with our long-haired rock image later to be known as outlaw.

In 1990 ( 20 yrs after the fact ) Willie Nelson acknowledged our efforts placing our history in his museums. Willie didn't play politics and didn't try to sweep us under the rug like the ultra conservative Nashville music industry did during the late 60s and early 70s.

This video is a true story about my early 70s duo known as The Country Cavaleers.
