New Garden - Part 2, Weed and Feed
- stein0726, CNN iReport producer
Issue #1 - it's clay soil, oy! Horrible stuff to grow in when we've been having the downpours that have flooded the state over the last couple of wet seasons. No wonder only the weeds have survived and the lawn stays soaked for so long.
I will need to add some gypsum, compost and good quality soil to the garden bed and dig it in well before I can plant anything.
Blessing #1 - I found earthworms while weeding! Worms are a good sign and will mean that they will help with the condition of the garden bed.
Pic 1 - before attacking the weeds.
Pic 2 - deweeded (is that a word?)
Pic 3 - gypsum, compost and soil - dug and mixed through with the clay.
Pic 4 - the plan for this section of the garden, including planting of carrots, spinach, lettuce and cress.
