O'Jays Board The Love Train
For Roberta's BDay weekend, we covered the legendary soul group The O'Jays at the Morongo Casino resort in Southern California.
From the beginning, with a high-energy opening set that included “Unity,” “Survivor,” and “Give the People What They Want,” original members Walter Williams and Eddie Lavert personified the Soul Train songs that made them famous.
Our favorites were the big hits "Backstabbers", "Love Train", "For The Love Of Money", "She Used To Be My Girl" and "I Love Music".
Walter and Eddie were also on topic with their in between songs banter, there were big laughs from the sold out crowd on "The Secret Service" prostitute discussion, and then there was some serious talk on race relations as they obviously were referring to the "Travor Martin" case: Isn't it about time we all got along?
The opportunity to experience in-person such legends of soul, rock and country is growing increasingly scarce these days. With this spirited and moving performance, the O'Jays lived up to their legacy.
Now its on to Bruce Springsteen tonight!
