Bachmann Makes Gaffes on Wolf "Dorothy" Blitzer

Michelle Bachman just reported on CNN to Wolf Blitzer that she is working to bring together the tea party and other factions like the evangelicals within the Republican party to back Mitt Romney even though she was not ready to endorse Mitt Romney herself – though she said she would support the party’s nominee. When Wolf pushed her for her endorsement or to at least clarify why she had yet to endorse the now presumptive nominee Bachman replied “When there was the dustup between Hilary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama there were 18 million women who had backed Hilary Clinton they wanted no part of backing Barack Obama. It took time to get them to come over.”

There are two things that are striking about choosing to highlight this part of the 2008 Democratic Primary:

    1) She is presenting Hilary Clinton as a limited political figure. Clinton did not just have a large female support base, she also had a significant advantage among old school Democrats and boomers. It seems Michelle Bachmann only sees Hilary Clinton’s sex – not her achievements that have led her to be a leader within the Democratic party.

    2) She is admitting that Mitt Romney has a significant problem with women voters. (and for that matter Evangelicals and Tea Party supporters).

    3) She has cast herself as Hilary Clinton.

    Okay – 3 things – not 2 – speaking of miscounting…

Earlier in the interview Bachmann made two significant gaffes while discussing the decision to travel to Afghanistan even though one of her fellow Republican congressman was denied entry into the country by President Karzai himself. Bachmann was critical of now Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Chief Leon Panetta for not being more supportive of the banned Congressman. While Bachman was attempting to balance her criticism and defend her own decision to travel to Afghanistan she said she went for 2 reasons and then proceeded to name the first and then the third. Perhaps all that time with Rick Perry in those debates wore off on her or maybe the second thing is secret.

Also in the same statement she referred to Afghanistan as Iran while describing how the Ambassador to Afghanistan negotiated an agreement on the trip: “He was at the, at 11:59 and 59 seconds, on negotiating the deal for handing of the baton for leadership in Iran from ISAF to the Afghans to be able to run this conflict on their own and defeat the Taliban.” I wonder if Iran knows that Bachmann just gave over power of Iran to the Afghan people?

It is one thing to make mistakes while speaking on camera – it happens – it is another to cast yourself as the secret behind the scenes savior of the Republican party and while doing so make so many mistakes in just 4 minutes. She even ended her interview by casting herself as a witch!

When Wolf pressed her one last time about her non-endorsement of Romney she said “Well as the line says in the Wizard of Oz “All in good time my pretty.”

What is wrong with the Republican party that in one interview one of their main spokespersons and a sitting congresswoman not only mistook Iran for Afghanistan, cast herself as the Hilary Clinton, admitted sub textually that Romney has serious problems with conservative voters and couldn’t count to two but she ends her segment quoting the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz making herself, well, the witch and I guess Wolf… Dorothy????

And is Wolf really that pretty?
