3 Flamboyant Cuttlefish hunting, eating, mating
In the video, you can clearly see the cuttlefish flashing their colors to confuse their prey. Then, you can see one of them extending its white, spikelike tongue or tentacle to spear and suck in its prey.
The other sequences depict what I first thought was playing or parasite cleaning behavior. It turns out that the mid sized male was keeping the smaller male from mating with the female. The ending sequence where the female opens up its tentacles represents the mating process.
These beautiful and fragile creatures are found in a world-class muck-dive spot called Secret Bay in Anilao, Batangas, in the Philippines. Recently, Secret bay has come under pressure because of construction and renovation on a dive resort immediately fronting this amazing dive site.
