Capturing Snowy Owls at first light
When the Snowy Owls came to Boundary Bay, and the tourists as well as Photographers invaded the area turning the Bay into a circus, I decided that in order to get some really nice shots it would be best for me to get there at the crack of dawn, which I did, thus avoiding the crowds, I braved fierce winds and temperatures hovering around the minus 10 degrees.
The Owls were settling in, after a night of hunting for voles and getting ready to rest and sleep. This was the time to get to work and try to capture them in that early light. Dealing with very low light was a challenge by itself, so I had to resort to high ISO and low shutter speeds which resulted inevitably in some degree of digital noise. Most of that noise was then reduced with the use of some editing and graphic programs.
I think that I managed to get the “mood” of that particular day. Enjoy!
