Unite Women|Foley Square

Saturday afternoon at Foley Square
Unite Women!
A beautiful sunny and blustery afternoon for a rally, under 'Triumph of the Human Spirit Memorial' (designed by Lorenzo Pace and dedicated to the myriad unknown slaves brought to America from Africa).
Two hundred women and men gathered to hear a call to action for women's rights.
In order of appearance, Congressman Gerald Nadler stressed the importance of every vote counting, citing the Special Election to fill the seat vacated by [convicted] Senator Kruger, where a difference of two votes has forced a recount of 23,000 ballots. 'Every vote counts!' Novelist Erika Jongg ('Fear of Flying') drove home the message that women's rights is the cornerstone of American democracy; & that the struggle for women's rights is generational -- this generation is poised to do its part! Actress Kimberly Wilson testified that she was a victim of the terrible 'R' word, and went on to sing-recite an impassioned and rousing poem by Sojourner Truth. NYS Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried noted that progress is being made with each generation but that the battle is on-going. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney reiterated, 'Where are the women,' as she did on the floor of the House of Representatives. Women of all ages, all colors and like-minded men must continue to assert themselves and pound the 1% with the message of women's rights.
