    Most Memorable Mother's Day

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     KCRep says that her mom now lives in a retirement home 1,200 miles away, but phone calls and flowers always make her happy -- and the promise of another visit this summer.
    - jgumbrecht, CNN producer

My most memorable Mother's Day was in 2002 when I took my Mom on a week long trip to DC. This was the first trip we took together alone ever. It was truly a "mommie and me" experience.

Along with all the historical sights we saw, we also rented a car and drove to Delaware and Virginia, we saw the damage to the Pentegon from the freeway, it had already been restored but we could see the difference in the color of the building where the plane hit.

The Iwo Jima statue blew me away, it's just standing there all alone in a park and it's enormous.

We had a wonderful time and even though 10 yrs have past neither one of us have forgotten one moment of this trip. It was the best Mother's Day each of us ever had.

Spending a week alone with your Mother in such a remarkable place is priceless.

Oh, I did forget one thing......my camera!!! But, I bought a postcard to almost every site we went to. I placed all the postcards and some other small items like stickers and pins on a large piece of white cardboard which you can see above in the picture that I took of it.

    Happy Mother's Day 2012
