    City smackdown: Los Angeles love

    More from paulmartinDJ

What's NOT to love about LA ? No place on earth compares !

It's not just the Hollywood glamor...or the easy reach of oceans and mountains...or the fantastically simple way you can get around with the straight streets and freeway accesses...or the great variety of shopping centers and supermarkets...or the appeal of the wonderfully designed one level homes with nice green fenceless gardens...or the flavor of being among millions of people from all different ways of life with their dreams and struggles to succeed !

La and Southern California is the World's most unique area. I have lived all over the World as a Foreign Correspondent, radio television DJ and  childrens entertainer, raised two Sons as a single Dad and LA is the only place I have always felt at home and at ease.

I even miss the frequent patrols of LAPD black and white cars rolling by the boulevards...reminds me of the unimitable tv series Adam 12...lol.

Hollywood's dream factory fills the air with the memories of great stars gone by...but that and the television studios plus the fantastic radio stations belting out everything from talk news and country to r&r 24/7 and the multitutude of different culture neighborhoods overlapping each other...together with an assortment of mega creative writers, ambitious actors and moviemakers...all combine to exhilirate the air with unmatchable high energy in around LA !

I spent 25 years there, my Son went to school there and we dabbled in old mustangs and camaros when they were affordable to buy and sell. Wer'e talking 70's and 80's and my Son Mark used to cruise Van Nuys and Whittier Blvds...an experience only those who took part in it could enjoy and explain.

Then there was the fabulous car shows at Pomona every weekend where classic  and modified car lovers gathered to keep alive the beauty of Americana in all it's genius and glory !

Yes...ahh ! the beaches...the mountains...the Valley and OC...it all comes back to me now in my perpetual memories of LA...Even though I am often thousands of miles away...my imagination and California-day-dreaming takes me back often...I can visualize the whole area from Ventura Country, to San Bernadino and  San Diego.....You can keep NY and the East...with all those storms and cooooold weather,etc..paush, arrogant, impatient people.....been there done that...and the South with all those tornadoes.....and the bible belt...no thanks !  LA isn't everyones cuppa tea...I realise that...there are many reminders of those who love the place but whose dreams and ambitions never made it...theres the teenage runaways, homeless, junkies, alchoholics and the poor along skid row millions of people who risked everything to cross the border and grab a piece of the LA fable and the missions where long lines wait daily for a meal and a place to sleep...the bag ladies and the cart pushers wandering about with all their Worldly possessions in kinda lost dazes. They all have one thing in common though...they are addicted to the LA way of life and just can't let go !

But in retrospect.....Iv'e been everywhere folks...and at the end of the day

                                                 I'LL TAKE LA
