iReport Debate: What’s your top issue? |
Voting on Women's Rights and the Environment
I plan to vote for the candidate who is progressive on both women's right and the environment. These issues are very important to me and I feel that they would both be in great jeopardy if a Republican was voted into office. The environment is high on my agenda and we need a leader who is realistic about the future of large-scale agriculture and food production and what it's going to take to continue to feed the world's rapidly growing population. The stock market and the financial crisis will cease to matter if we are not even able to get food from the field to our tables. We need a candidate who understands these issues and is ready to face them, rather than ignore them and try to distract the public with superficial non-issues such as gay marriage, abortion and gun control, as many conservatives are prone to doing. We need a leader who can successfully work with and be respected by the international community and who is conscious of the fact that we are not the only people on this planet.
