Asheville, NC: Monday evening on the campus of UNC Asheville an electrifying lightning show was on display for atmospheric science majors and onlookers. The students grabbed their tripods and cameras to catch some of the beautiful action. The lightning was caused by a severe thunderstorm a few miles to the north that caused severe hail to the size of ping pong balls. The storm moved off to the east, just as another series of storms rapidly developed to follow the same path as the previous storm. They were not nearly as strong as the first storms.
