    Pledge of Allegiance protest gathering

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ValerieMay shot these photos of an April 28 protest in Falmouth, MA, over city council member Melissa Freitag, who refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance because it includes the words "under God." Demonstrators both against and in support of Freitag were in attendance. 'The outrage was quite something,' she said. 'It only took one hour for it to be all over Facebook and the talk of the town. Newsgroups started arriving and veterans from all over the country started calling the town hall.'

    Last Monday night at the Town of Falmouth Selectmen meeting, selectperson Melissa C. Freitag, decided that they would not say the Pledge of Allegiance that night, causing an uproar in the town of Falmouth. In response the Veterans and Mass house Rep for Barnstable David Vieira to hold a gathering this evening to say the Pledge of Allegiance on the lawn in front of the Falmouth Town Hall. Falmouth police Chief Anthony J. Riello estimated a crowd over 1000, with only a few shouts of protest the crowd was orderly.
