Education Needs Focus
I have become very involved in my son's elementary school and am quite dismayed at what happened to the curriculum since I was in school.
Thanks to No Child Left Behind, which I think is a great idea that was implemented badly, there is no room for science or social studies: it's all about getting the numbers to pass the state tests for math and reading/writing.
I volunteer in the library every day cleaning and getting books ready to be put away and, by far, the highest volume of check out is in the 500 section of non-fiction, the sciences. This is because the students get no exposure in the classrooms anymore. And if they do, it's very limited.
No Child Left Behind needs to either be corrected or removed. This is the biggest issue for me.
