Will Republicans Act To Bring Down Gas Prices?
Will the GOP act to help investigate oil speculation on Wall Street by providing the funding to put more "cops on the beat" in an election year? The GOP is blaming Obama for the high prices of gas.
President Obama called on Attorney General, Eric Holder, to thoroughly investigate the excessive oil speculation of Wall Street traders. He asked Congress for more money.
Obama's calls for more money from a Republican controlled U.S. House, to be spent by government to save Americans at the pump, is optimistic at best. Republicans? Spending more money to help American people? Absurd!
The analogy has been made that if the "NFL doubled the numbers of teams in their league and didn't double the number of referees, there would be chaos". That's what we have on Wall Street with oil swaps and in the U.S. Congress with divided partisan government. Congress is paralyzed with partisanship.
Just the mention of an investigation has begun to lower our price at the pump. But more needs to be done. Those that illegally have profited at the expense of American consumers should be found and prosecuted.
Republicans have failed to act on many rules that would have helped American consumers. Senate Minority leader, Mitch McConnell refused to allow a vote on the Buffet Rule.
McConnell and the GOP have a track record of failing to act on what would be best for Americans. Instead, the GOP sandbags legislation that would hurt their corporate interests.
Maybe Republicans have a problem with anything that has the term "rule" in it - unless it's a rule that would restrict a woman's right to contraceptives or health care provided by organizations such as Planned Parenthood.
Gas prices may be defying the Summer trend, right now. But unless Congress holds responsible those that cause these wild gas price fluctuations , they will continue to exploit Americans at the pump.
Democrats need to hold the Republican Party responsible for their tacit support and protection of those traders that gouge Americans with high gas prices. It may be a free market for Wall Street, but it's certainly not free for the middle class. We pay every time the GOP cheer their "Free Market".
