    Dagupeños Celebrate Bangus Festival on a Grill

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     raijinnathan went home to Dagupan City, Philippines, this week for the city's famed Bangus festival and street party. 'The festival was conceived to show the Philippines and the world the prospering bangus (milkfish) industry the city has been renowned for, and at the same time, it is a celebration of the fruits of hard work and sacrifice of all of the people who were involved in the industry, leading to a rich and bountiful harvest,' he said.

    The highlight of this year's Bangus Festival culminated to the much awaited street party dubbed as "Kalutan ed Dalan" (grilling on the street) which earned the city a Guinness World Record having the longest barbecue of the world in 2003.

     

    The ceremonial kindling of the grills was graced by Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Representative "Manay" Gina de Venecia and Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin "Benjie" Lim.

     

    Thousands of Dagupeños as well as visitors trooped the central business district of Dagupan City to join the revelry in celebration of the bountiful harvest of bangus (milkfish) during the year.
