Occupy DC, May Day Protesters Shut Down City Streets in Solidarity

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Makandel shot these photos May Day "Occupy" protesters taking to the streets of Washington, D.C., in hopes of reviving the movement through an "American Spring." 'People were jovial and charged, a very festive atmosphere. They then took that energy to the streets in a more serious, much louder way,' he said. 'They hope that this will bring attention back to the movement, but based on what I have seen over the last few months, I'm not sure it will work.'
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

In solidarity with May Day protests around the world, Occupy DC organized a rally and march that originated at Meridian Hill Park and ended at the White House. During the rally, teachings on May Day history; protest procedures; and general political issues were held along with games and speakers.

Protesters proceeded to walk through the streets of DC screaming anti-capitalist slogans and “justice for the people” chants. Onlookers from above peaked out windows to snap some photos, while other workers high above the march raised fists in solidarity.
