The Vanishing Villages
My father's life long dream was to return to the village of his grandparents. This past April he and I made the return. Within five minutes of arriving in the village we came across a woman with our last name. My father swears it was divine intervention.
We spent three days exploring this beautiful and dying village. Most inhabitants are older, with children and grandchildren that have left for bigger cities in Italy.
The structure, layout and construction of the village was amazing, but we couldn't help but be struck by the sadness of the deterioration of the village itself. Many vacant and uninhabitable homes.
A dream realized...however my fear is the village will not last much longer.
