    hookah at a cafe in the east village, cigars from a smoke shop in soho.

    the campaigner girl, the fashion designer, the wanna-be brooklynite.

    i date new york.

    sam adams, brooklyn lager, jager, peroni, warsteiner, gato negro, and lassi.

    i drink new york.

    down the hatch, pianos, lunasa, sin sin, china one, beauty bar, mannahatta.

    i party new york.

    dominican spanish, cantonese, yiddish, portugese, greek, russian, arabic.

    i speak new york.

    fuzzy rats on the platform, businessmen wearing armani suits and converse.

    i admire new york.

    Columbia law school, Def Poetry Jam, the marathon, the united nations.

    i dream new york.

    the fountain at washington square. CBGB’s. the Twin Towers.

    i miss new york.

    the energy, the inspiration, the neighborliness, the feeling you get just being there.

    i love new york.

    the banker from citibank, the harlem resident, the NYU student. el caballo.

    i am new york.
