When We Are President: What "dirt" will they find on the next generation?

Every time someone is running for public office, their opposition is constantly trying to find "dirt" from their past. We hear about bad dealings, poor decisions made in college, even about private photos and videos; all of which are used negatively against a respective candidate.

My question is, why does it matter? Think about it. By the time my generation (I'm 29) starts running for public office of any kind, it will be nearly impossible to find a candidate that hasn't sexted, hasn't taken, sent or received a nude photo, hasn't drunk-texted, hasn't said something (out of humor or anger) politically incorrect on a social media site, etc.

I'm curious as to who people will back, if all of us have a "past". Why does it matter so much if candidate XYZ had a one night stand at some point? Why does it matter so much that, out of humor or drunk, a candidate made a joke about a person and/or group? Who cares if a candidate may have made a video of him/her with his/her wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend? Why is that still so shocking?

Campaigns, elections and smearing ads are going to become very interesting, once the information-age babies are ready to lead the nation. Your take?
