    C. Roland Christensen, Guru of the Case Study Method at Harvard---My Mentor

    C. Roland "Chris" Christensen was my teacher at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where he spent the end of an illustrious four decade teaching career at the Harvard Business School. I thought I knew about interactive learning before I met him--but he was the kindest, most inclusive teacher you could imagine. He had been recognized as the teacher who had made the single greatest contribution to the quality of teaching at Harvard in the prior 25 years. His course at the Graduate School of Education was "Discussion Group Leadership Skills" and he taught you how --no, he taught you where to come from in leading a discussion, how to get everyone involved, how to avocate for people who might be marginalized by the group. I learned so very much from him and put this into my own 20 year college teaching career. He used to say, " if you find that you are the only person holding a particular position in a full class discussion, look around and I'll be right there to back you up." Just an incredible person who was so very kind and supportive in the midst of so many out of control egos at Harvard, as you can well imagine.
