    Your most inspirational teacher

    More from joanniebalon

High school English teacher opened my mind.

Before taking this English literature class, I think the only things I read were Reader's Digest condensed books that my parents had a subscription to.I also read the Nancy Drew books I could get. I don't remember many children's books or being taken or going to the library once I could drive.

I don't remember my teacher's name, but he saved my life. I grew up in a conservative and very quiet Methodist home. When I fist read Catcher in the Rye, I couldn't believe that there was such a world out there, especially written in books.

He started me on a lifelong books of all kinds and I am so grateful to him.
