Same-sex marriage: Civil right vs. states' rights

Reaction to North Carolina Marriage Amendment

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     esciteachr69 shared his thoughts on North Carolina's passage of a ban on same-sex marriage in the state. 'What still troubles me is that this debate is still continuing in our country where we like to say we defend the freedoms of all citizens yet still have to define such a simple word as marriage,' he said. 'We say this because we feel we have set rights to everyone that is a citizen inside of our borders, when in reality there is still oppression going on everyday in this country that seems to go un-noticed or just plain forgotten.'
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

My reaction and comments on the marriage amendment in North Carolina today. A correction to my comments: when I say prosperity I meant property when quoting the 14th amendment.
