This iReport is part of an assignment:
From garden to table |
Can you tell this is my first vegetable garden?
The website let me search for the specific varieties of seeds I had, and recommended a plan to prepare, sow and take care of the plants.
Although I'm calling it my *first garden, last year I had a very informal go at it. I tilled the ground and broadcasted some seeds here and there, but didn't give it much care beyond that... I didn't even water it!
This March, when I went back to look over the plot in preparation for the season, I noticed there were some carrot sprouts, so I dug them out. To my surprise, a couple of the carrots I broadcasted last year grew, though not very well. This gave me lots of encouragement for giving the garden an honest go this time around.
In the photos you can see Swiss chard, tomato, basil, carrots, beets, and a flower section. Not pictured, I have some very young bell pepper plants, and squash and cauliflower which haven't sprouted yet (I got a feeling I'm just not gonna have luck with these last two).
