Carroll Shelby Was Our Mustang Club Hero
Mustangs and Carroll Shelby have been a major part of my life since 1976. My first car was a 67' GT. From 1976 to 1989, I owned over 22 Mustangs - but I never owned 'my dream car', that would be a 1969 Shelby GT 500.
I was the president of the Mustang Classics Car Club for 7 years. Mr Shelby was our hobby hero. We worshiped him as a god. I met him at the Riverside Racing Legends show a few years ago.
The legendary car designer and brief, but successful, race car driver, has passed away at the age of 89. Shelby, who was the inspiration for Ford’s Shelby Mustang and Shelby Cobra, passed away in Dallas Thursday night, reportedly after a long illness.
Carroll Shelby’s most recent vehicle is the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, which comes with 650 horsepower, the most powerful V-8 engine in the world so far. As he would say, 'Lets Race'!
So Rest In Peace my car buddy. The car world will never be the same again. Maybe one day I will own that 69' Shelby...
