White Hall Tavern Too Much of a Good Thing
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
The Tavern was owned by Frederick Roeder, a German immigrant and later a Union sympathizer. He owned and lived in the successful town confectionery bakery shop as well. The story goes as a Union sympathizer Roeder wanted to see the American Flag fly over Maryland . On his way back he was actually shot by a Union soldier, made it back to his home only to die shortly after.
Today the actual tavern has been refurbished and is a hub of activity in Harper's Ferry. Street performers sing and tell stories. No beer or liquor is allowed on the city streets. Many of the near by restaurants do have a good cold one.
