Global Spring has just started in Lisbon

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     TTeixeira says the people several Occupy movements from across the world have called for a 'Global Spring.' She says the goal of the movement is to grab the global community's attention on economic inequalities and social injustices. 'Portugal is coming across the same difficulties that Spain, Greece and other European countries are facing. No jobs, taxes increase, salary cuts, and other austerity measures,' she says. 'There are sick people that cannot afford the public health care and students are giving up on their courses and leaving universities. People are really concerned about their future.'
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Global Spring has just started in Lisbon and it will last till May 15th. This afternoon about 800 hundred activists gathered in the centre of Lisbon, in Plaza Rossio, where they first started making their own signs and banners. They were protesting against government austerity measures, the national debt, the precarious work conditions, national health services and other issues that are a real concern. The demonstrators headed to Marquês de Pombal, and then to Parque Eduardo VII, where they plan to stay over the next few days and carry on some workshops, political debates and other social activities. Global Spring in Portugal is integrated by citizens and social movements that believe that they are able to find solutions for the problems that threaten our society and find new models of sustainable democratic organizations.
