    Annular Eclipse Simulation : May 20th/21st 2012

An annular eclipse of the sun is an eclipse where the moon is just a fraction further away than normal from the earth and so when it crosses the face of the sun, not all the sun is hidden. The eclipse will start over China at 2056 UTC on May 20th 2012 and finish in the Western United States at 0249 UTC on May 21st 2012. This simulation shows the eclipse as seen from Hong Kong (where the eclipse will happen between 0606 and 0716 local time). Other cities to see the eclipse will be Taipei, Chinese Taipei (between 0609 and 0723 local time), Tokyo, Japan (between 0619 and 0902 local time) and Carson City, NV (between 1615 and 1837 local time on the 20th). I shall be watching the eclipse coverage on television channels from China and Japan and would be happy to talk about the eclipse from 2100 UTC until 2300 UTC on CNN if you wanted me to.
