    Living without Facebook?

    You reap what you sow....

...And so the adage goes. As a Facebook account grows with you over the years, it too travels through old friends, new friends, family you never talk to, ex-gfs and new-gfs. The random posts, tagged pictures, standard FB stalking, and the general time-suck of looking at friends (most of the time boring) updates...carves out huge chunks of time during the day and night. I know that I probably wasn't a FB "power user", but it had the same effect as TV (to a certain degree) - it began to take over my life.

Coupled with this, there is the mis-communication of posts between "friends" on your wall: new-gfs getting mad at old-gfs for "inappropriate" wall posts...stress levels increase, you check your profile more often for posts that can be misconstrued or remove your picture tagging option (just in case)... You become a FB strategist.

I canceled my account 6 months ago - it's been fantastic! There is a little less drama, a little more time, and I'm able to go back to spending time on what I should be doing. Granted, I do miss some of the "friends" and family that I never hear from and will have lost possibly some old friends that I reconnected with. However, maybe that's the test...once you leave, will they make the effort to contact you and visa versa through email or (YIKES!...) the phone?

All's good and I'm more content with a non-FB life, however, I say to all the others...go, go, go & join FB...I'll be investing in the IPO come Friday...;))
