    The best fishermen

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     speedy01 shot these photos of wild herons fishing in the waters of Tsawwassen, British Columbia. 'There is a rookery nearby and at this time of year the Herons are busy building their nests and fishing,' he said. 'The inevitable fight for fishing territory follows as can be expected, so it's always fun to watch them and capture them doing what they do best. They are so engrossed in fishing that they don't mind people getting close to them which makes it easy for me to get their pictures.'

    Springtime, and the herons are now busy fishing after building their nests, a flurry of activity occurs at low tide, the inevitable battles between them, and the occasional and rare death by suffocation when they swallow fish that is too big for them. All this contribute to a show of survival.
    I am fortunate enough to live near a Rookery, and can be the witness of their fishing skills. They are so engrossed in what they do that I can get quite close without disturbing them. These images are the result of many many hours of patiently waiting for the right moment. Enjoy!
