Living without Facebook? |
How Facebook erased me from my friend's life
We used to spend time together and do things and talk. But I found that more and more, when we would get together, we'd end up sitting together at a computer on Facebook with her showing me pictures of things she had done or "funny" comments other people had written.
Her obsession with Facebook grew to the point that when we would get together at a restaurant and I was talking to her, she would have her phone under the tabletop, her eyes on it, reading postings or making comments to others. She would take pictures of our drinks and the meal we were eating and post them, When I was discussing something serious with her, I saw her eyes down on her phone and I stopped talking.....it took her a minute but she finally noticed I'd stopped talking and she waved her hand at me (eyes still on her facebook page) and said "go on, go on".
Because I do not exist on Facebook, I do not exist in my friend's life anymore. Of course, I'm always welcome to vist her.....Facebook page, that is.
