The day is marked with a range of events such as state ceremonies, speeches, outdoor festivals and marches through downtown Jerusalem which end at the Western Wall in the Old City.
Today’s march from downtown to the Western Wall was expected to reach numbers of approximately 50,000 people
The downtown celebration started in front of the Jerusalem Great Synagogue on King George Street at 5:00pm with singing and dancing and will end around midnight at the Western Wall.
The Police, Special Forces, helicopters and other security agencies were on hand for any emergencies.
