ANSF, CF find 8 weapon caches in eastern Afghanistan
BAGRAM, Afghanistan (May 23, 2012) – Afghan National Security Forces, along with their coalition force allies, discovered eight weapon caches throughout eastern Afghanistan, May 22, 2012.
The cache’s included approximately 7,150 lbs of Aluminum and Ammonium nitrates, compounds used to make improvised explosive devices; more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition for various rifles; three 107mm rockets; two 155mm and one 120mm artillery round; six 82mm mortar rounds; two rocket propelled grenades, two RPG heads and launcher; seven small arms and various amounts of clothes, communication equipment and components used to construct IEDs.
“It’s hard to quantify the sheer magnitude of these finds,” said Maj. Paul Haverstick, spokesperson for Regional Command East, Combined Joint Task Force 1. “Each explosive, each round of ammunition, the ANSF confiscated could be one life saved, or more.”
